The reading salon is a traditional project of THUSFA. Relying on the “WeSalon” project on campus, it mainly serves the Club members as well as people interested in the specific theme, with the scale of about 4 to 8 people each time. The salon usually starts with the host choosing a particular theme on SF-for example, an author or a topic-and launching a WeSalon. The host will hand out or tell the works to be discussed to participants in advance, and make a brief introduction and impromptu speech on the reading salon. Then, the participants will make a discussion on some relevant topics, or just talk ramdomly and recommend their beloveed works due to their own interest. Up to now, several reading salons have been launched, including those focusing on I. Asimov, Ted Chiang, PKD, Roger zelazny, Ursula K. LeGuin, Ken Liu and Rainbows End.The Club have also undertaked two “I-DO-IT” acativity sponsored by the ministry of community of THU, whose themes are, respectively, “Folding Beijing: The Future Cities In SF Works” and “Not Necessarily Better Future-The New Worlds In Cyberpunk”. We hope that there be more people to launch a reading salon and more people be attract to it, so that more SF fans outside or inside the Club can be better served and the influence of the Club and SF works themselves can be expanded.
